Welcome to the Hopkins Family Home Page

The background that you see is our previous cat, Simba. We had to have Simba put to sleep as he developed "displaced aggression."

UPDATE.....we have decided to settle in Crystal River, Florida. We purchased a 3 acre lot in an area of horse ranches and built a home there during the spring and summer of 2005. The house was finished in early January of 2006 and we have been busy making it a home since then.

Our new home in Crystal River, Florida.

We are fortunate in that we are paid a visit every winter by some of the very rare whooping cranes. It is said there are only about 450 of these beautiful birds in existence. Click on the play button below to see a short video that I took of a pair of whoopers in our back yard.

Simba, the cat which makes up the background on this page, is no longer with us. Since then, we have adopted Richard, pictured above. Richard is now 8 years old, and I have recently adopted another kitten, whom I named Simba, after my previous cat.

A Hundred and two Years Old

Elsie on her 100th birthday

On April 21st, 2002, my mother, Elsie Nelson, celebrated her 100th birthday in Gorham, Maine, with the help of some 75 relatives and friends. Folks came from several different states and Sweden! The party was held at the home of Dick and Marion Green who were very kind to offer their facilities and their help. The weatherman cooperated, providing a sunny, but rather cool day.....which was much better than a rainy and cool day! We know that Elsie appreciated the fact that so many came to help her celebrate her 100th. She has asked us to convey her thanks and appreciation to everyone. To read a brief biography of Elsie's life, click on "Elsie's Life" below.

Elsie passed away on Aug 2nd 2004, about 4 months after her 102nd birthday. She lived a very long life, indeed. After so many years, her presence will be missed.

Ode to a Skull

by William Hopkins

Oh Skull....
Ship, with thy cargo of features...
Cast anchor....
The journey is done.
The loving and hating are over...
And the grinning has just begun!
